I started teaching competition workshops at Foxy Fitness and Pole on a weekly basis! Come sign up for them on Tuesdays at 7:30pm. They're 1 hr long and 3 students max. This means that (after warm up), each student will have 3 run-through opportunities with feedback each time. But they don't have to be run throughs. They can be 2 run throughs and some drills on a combo, for example. The workshops can also be choreography time. In addition to workshops, I also highly recommend private lessons to get extended 1:1 attention on improving technique.
If you are new to competition, here are some of tips before scheduling a private lesson or attending a workshop (either mine or someone else's):
Pick 2-3 songs and present them to your instructor.
Have at least 5 tricks that you really want to put into your routine.
70-80% of the tricks should be ones that you are comfortable with.
20-30% of the tricks should be ones that you are close to mastering, so that you can grow alongside your routine.
Here are some tips while you are in competition training:
Rest! It is better to be able to pole long term than risk injury because you are close to getting a trick or you are overworking your body's capability.
Eat well! You need energy to do all things pole.
Moisturize on off-training days.
Train yourself to not reapply grip after every trick. You can start with doing easier combos 2 times in a row without reapplying grip in between, for example.
Happy training!
UPDATE 12/2022: I will be rotating across a variety of workshops (flips & kips, exotic floorwork, acro chair, etc.) on Tuesdays instead! I will most likely be resuming competition workshops Wednesdays in 3/2023.
